After Taiwan entered the International Association of Horticultural1 Producers in 2004, it soon applied to host the organization's next international floral2 exposition3. Producers around the island saw the potential to build international interest in Taiwan's rich floral products. Taipei officials also felt it was a good chance to begin improving the city's public facilities. The theme, "Rivers, Flowers, New Horizons4," combines Taipei's unique environment with a focus on the future. Spread across a total area of 91.8 hectares5, the Expo consists of 14 special exhibition halls which display Taiwan's unique flora, new gardening methods, and flowers from all over the world.

　　Taipei's planners have done things differently and are going to host this large-scale event in an urban center. They felt the public's desire for greener urban areas should be met with a new style. Visitors can walk down specially-built walkways6 that connect three of the four Expo sites while experiencing natural flora in the heart of Taipei. The walkways, along with the carefully designed grounds7, are part of the planners' hopes to transform Taipei into a city of gardens.

　　While the Expo tries to bring the natural world closer to Taipei, another major goal is to bring Taipei closer to nature. Visitors can experience greener living and a healthy attitude for the future at all kinds of special events and halls. Organizers also promise to make the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo memorable for every visitor.

　
　臺灣於2004年加入國際園藝生產者協會後，很快就申請舉辦該組織下一屆的國際花卉博覽會。全島各地的生產者看到了一種可能性，那就是建立起國際社會對 臺灣豐富花卉產品的興趣。臺北市官員也認為這是個開始改善這座城市的公共設施的好機會。展覽的主題――『彩花、流水、新視界』將臺北獨特的環境以及對未來 的關注作結合。花博會的總占地面積達九十一點八公頃，由十四座獨具特色的展館所組成，展出內容包括臺灣的特殊植物、新的園藝方法，以及來自世界各地的花 卉。

　　有別於以往，臺北的主辦單位將在人文薈萃的城市化地區舉辦這次大規模的活動。他們認為應該要以一種新型態的方式來滿足民眾對市區再添綠意的渴望。當遊 客在臺北的市中心欣賞天然花卉時，他們可以沿著特別打造的步道漫步而行，而這些步道則是連接了四個花博展場中的三個展出地點。這些步道以及精心設計的園 區，都是主辦單位希望將臺北改造成一座城市花園的部分規劃。

　　當花博試圖要讓自然界更靠近臺北時，另一個主要目標就是要讓臺北更親近大自然。在各式各樣特別的活動及展場中，遊客不但可以體驗更有綠意的生活，還能領會到一份對未來所抱持的健康態度。主辦單位也允諾要讓2010臺北國際花卉博覽會在諸位遊客心中留下深刻的記憶。

（花博會的總占地面積達九十一點八公頃，由十四座……所組成……）
　　上述句子原為"The Expo is spread across a total area of 91.8 hectares, the Expo consists of 14..."，但如此一來會造成兩句接在一起卻無連接詞連接的錯誤句構。補救之道為將第一個子句依照分詞句構化簡法變成分詞片語，其法則如下：將第一個子 句中相同的主詞刪除，之後的動詞要變成現在分詞，若該動詞為 be 動詞時，變成現在分詞 being 之後可省略。因此刪除第一個子句的主詞"The Expo"後，將 be 動詞 is 改成現在分詞 being 並予以省略，即形成本句。但須注意的是，在使用本化簡法來連接兩句之前，務必先確認前後句子的主詞是一致的。
　 Mike was feeling tired, he went to bed early last night. (×)
→ Feeling tired, Mike went to bed early last night. (○)
（麥克昨晚覺得很疲憊，於是他早早就上床睡覺了。）
