One man's quest to change the world
Pat Farmer, a politician and
ultra-distance runner from Australia, truly believes that people can achieve anything they
set their minds on. That's _(1)_ he's going to
put his money where his mouth is and run from the North Pole to the South Pole. This is an
undertaking he has dreamed about doing for ages.
Farmer intends to _(2)_ 21,000 kilometers of his Pole to Pole Run within 10 months. To do this, he will have to
average 85 kilometers every single day
with no days off. Starting in April 2011, Farmer will be flown in by
helicopter to the North Pole before he _(3)_ across Canada.
Afterwards, he will head down the west coasts of North, Central, and South America and finally over to the South Pole. There will be a professional camera
crew documenting him every step of the way, and the
footage will be
broadcast online and on TV
in real time. This way, viewers get to see _(4)_ what he sees as he sees it.
What would
drive one man
to undertake this never-before-
attempted feat? One word—water. With his Pole to Pole Run, Farmer is trying to raise _(5)_ of as well as US$100 million for the world's water
crisis. He has seen
firsthand the misery and
despair caused by _(6)_ safe drinking water, proper
hygiene, and
adequate sanitation. _(7)_ the International Red Cross, Farmer hopes to bring clean water to children and communities around the world. As a
defender of those in need, Pat Farmer is out to
make a difference step by tireless step.
