Yingge─An Artistic Treasure Right on Our Doorstep 鶯歌陶瓷展──國際多元藝術在您咫尺之間

　　The many wonders of Taiwan are waiting to be explored. Whether it's the snow-capped mountains of Mt. Jade in winter or the sultry beaches of Kenting in summer, there are thousands of places to visit. One place of note is less than an hour outside of Taipei. Yingge is a must-see town for local and foreign tourists with a hankering for true craftsmanship.

　　If you haven't had the opportunity to make the trip to this historic town, now is the perfect time as October 2 marks the conclusion of a monumental exhibition. Conceived by the late director of the Yingge Ceramics Museum, Wu Chin-Fong, the exhibit is an international collaboration. Working with the US-based National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, the Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum has brought Taiwan an outstanding ceramics show.

　　Though not everyone's cup of tea, ceramic art is reaching new heights locally and abroad. This is evident in the exhibition, Diverse Domain, Contemporary North American Ceramic Art, currently held at the ceramics museum. One of the world-renowned artists featured in this exhibit is Daniel Anderson. Inspired by rural and urban structures, Anderson's three-dimensional clay sculptures have a life of their own. Japanese-born Keisuke Mizuno's ideas are generated by nature. Mixing fruits and flowers that symbolize life, Mizuno throws in the detested slug. His work is rich with detail and color. These artists and others have created pieces that touch old fans and excite new ones.

北美陶藝展命名為『Diverse Domain』（複調多音）的由來：

本標題乃根據北美普遍注重個人價值的觀念而來，認為每個人有表達想法的自由，想法可能互異，卻又不損及其平等的地位，而這種特質也反映在陶藝上。每位陶藝家都有其獨特之處，使得北美陶藝有繁複而多樣化的面貌。中文標題則引用文學、文化評論家巴赫汀（Mikhail Bakhtin, 1895-1975）的『複調』（polyphony）理論，強調每件作品為創作者個人意識的表達，因此價值平等而獨立，和平共存於多元的當代。

　　台灣有諸多奇景等待人們去發掘。不管是冬季白雪皚皚的玉山山脈，還是夏季酷熱的墾丁海灘，有成千上萬的景點值得一遊。其中一處知名地離台北不到1個小時。鶯歌是本地和外國渴求精巧工藝的觀光客必訪的城鎮。

　　如果您尚未有機會造訪這充滿古早風味的小鎮，現在是最好的時機了，因為10月2日是一項重要展覽的閉幕日。本展覽由已故鶯歌陶瓷博物館館長吳進風先生所構思，乃一跨國合作活動。台北縣鶯歌陶瓷博物館與美國國家陶藝教育學會合作，為台灣獻上精采的陶藝展。

　　陶藝雖不一定合每個人的口味，但其在本地和海外皆已登上新高峰。這在博物館現正舉辦的『複調多音──當代北美陶藝展』中顯而易見。丹尼爾‧安德森為展覽中全球知名的藝術家之一。安德森因受到鄉野與城市建築啟發，使他的立體陶塑栩栩如生。日本的水野圭介其靈感源自大自然。作品包含了象徵生命的花果，又加進倍受鄙視的蛞蝓，呈現精細多彩的面貌。這兩位藝術家和其他參展者都創造出令陶藝迷感動、又令新入門者驚艷的作品。
