A Celebration of Girls and Dolls女孩限定——日本女兒節 Every year on March 3, the Japanese celebrate Girls' Day by praying for their young daughters' health and future happiness. Girls' Day is also called the Doll Festival because people arrange special dolls on a staircase1-like shelf a few weeks before March 3. On the day of the festival, a party is held for the girls where sake2 and diamond3-shaped rice cakes are consumed. The dolls are then promptly boxed up on March 4. If not, according to superstitions4, the daughters will have a hard time finding a husband. 　　Girls' Day is connected to an old custom that used dolls to get rid of evil. Families would make dolls out of paper, breathe on them, and then rub them against their bodies. This transferred any bad luck the family members had to the dolls. Afterwards, the dolls were taken to the nearest river and thrown in. As they floated away, the dolls took the bad luck with them.

用對搭配詞 說英文自然流暢

原 來學英文也要搭配！搭配記憶這是一般學英語的人的最大罩門。搭配英文叫做collocation，co是一起，location是位置，加起來，簡單來 說，就是擺在一起，有些字天生就是和另外一些字擺在一起的，中文也是這樣，例如我們說一匹馬，不說一匹人；高談闊論，不說高講闊論。這就是「搭配詞」！　 搭配詞用得好會讓語言道地與流暢。我們講中文不會有問題，但當使用英文時，就常會「搭錯」詞。像中文的「開支票」，但在英文卻不是open a check，而是write a check！又如中文的「濃茶」，英文不是thick tea，而是strong tea。不必問為什麼，即便是中文，不是語言學家也說不出個所以然，這種約定成俗的表達，在上下文關係(context)裡學，速度最快。

英語的字詞搭配概分為幾類：

(一) 動詞＋介系詞：

動詞與介系詞的搭配最複雜，因為動詞後面用不同介系詞，意思就不同。有時中文看來不必加介系詞，像「恭喜你升官了」說成 I congratulate your promotion. 中文看起來很合理，但錯就錯在介系詞。介系詞是大部份人最頭痛的錯（Ｘ）。

●「恭喜你成功了」要說成 I congratulate you on（Ｘ：for）your promotion.；

●「提醒他某事」remind him of something (of經常被忽略掉)；

●「被控告貪污」be accused of（Ｘ：for）corruption；

However, instead of a ball, a headless goat is used to score points. The next day, the brothers take a camel ride through the desert.

A Century of Taiwan's Film Industry 台灣電影百年紀實   　　For the past 100 years, films have touched the hearts of Taiwanese people. Films are not just pictures on a screen. They can record a moment in time, challenge social standards, and influence how people feel. The film industry in Taiwan has also helped Taiwan share its culture with the world. Films first came to Taiwan in 1901, and Taiwan's film industry has recently entered a modern wave of film-making. This wave has sparked people's interest in local movies and the history of film in Taiwan. 　　The first films in Taiwan were made with Japanese influences. These silent films were shown with live narrators1 called benshi. The mood of a film was determined by how the benshi interpreted the film. After World War II, movies that had sound took the place of silent films, but this wasn't the only change. The new government also affected the types of films that were made. In the 1960s, the government promoted films that celebrated traditional moral values and used Mandarin. Therefore, films in Mandarin became the mainstream2.

Andy Warhol Exhibition 普普教父：安迪．沃荷世界巡迴展 　　Andy Warhol was one of the central figures in the Pop Art movement1, which started in the mid 1950s. His works have been seen by millions and are memorable because of the original ideas behind them. They usually include bright colors and contrasts2. It is likely that you already know a few of his works, such as the Campbell's soup can painting or the portraits3 of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol's interests went beyond art and included film making, record producing, and writing. 　　Warhol's art is not just nice to look at. It also reflects what was happening in the world at that time. Some examples of this are his famous portrait of Mao and his magazine cover of the Mafia4 on trial. 　　Warhol also came up with the phrase "15 minutes of fame." It refers to how quickly the media jumps from one story to the next. This means someone could be hot news today and forgotten tomorrow.

The Greatest Escape Artist: Houdini 脫逃大師胡迪尼 　　Harry Houdini was one of the best magicians the world has ever seen. Born as Erik Weisz in Hungary in 1874, Houdini moved with his family to America at the age of four. By the time he was nine years old, he was already performing as a trapeze artist. Houdini then began to develop his talents as an escape artist1. He first performed with his brother and then later with his wife, Bess. Escape artists perform their stunts by breaking free from something, such as a locked box, chains2 and handcuffs3, or a closed tank that is filled with water.
