(Indirect Speech or Reported Speech)

1.

(1)

Tom lives next door,Bill told me (or Bill said to me).

(2)

Let the children play in the garden if they want to, she told her gardener. I'm sure they won't do any harm.

(1)

直:

I have something to show you, she said to me (or she told me).
(

She said to me that she had something to show me.

She told me that she had something to show me. ()
(

(2)

直:

Look where you are going, she said to me; the road is full of holes and very badly lit.

She told me to look where I was going as the road was full of holes and very badly lit.
(

(1)

直:

It isn't so windy today as it was yesterday, I remarked.
(

I remarked that  it wasn't so windy that day as it had been the day before.
(

(2)

直:

I'll come with you as soon as I am ready, she replied.
(

She said she'd come with me as soon as she was ready.
(

(3)

直:

If you let the iron too hot, it will scorch your clothes, I warned her.
(

I warned her (that) if she let the iron too hot, it would scorch her clothes.
(

(4)

直:

You haven't paid me quite enough. The bill is for 52 dollars and you've paid me only 50, he pointed out.
(

He pointed out I hadn't paid him quite enough. The bill was for 52 dollars and I'd paid him only 50.
(
