Most of you have probably read the book or seen the movie, "Around the World in 80 Days." The main character is a British bachelor1 named Phileas Fogg, whose objective is to travel the globe2 by only using public transportation. This is all part of a bet, with the condition that Fogg must complete his journey within a limited amount of time. Now, there is a modern-day Fogg on the scene, but his odyssey3 is much more challenging.

樸門「綠生活」

「家」是每個人最容易掌握，也最容易改變的地方，每個人都可以利用陽台或院子，從收集屋頂的雨水、種植自己的食物、製作堆肥改變盆栽土壤等，當一個自給自足的城市農夫，這就是樸門的「居家實踐」。
住在台北市的美汝，有兩座很小的陽台，大約只有25公分寬的鐵窗架可以擺放盆栽，即使在這麼狹小的空間裡，她仍種滿各類蔬菜，甚至有百香果和薄荷。
喜歡動手DIY的許伯伯，利用住家後方廢棄的舊牆，回收磚塊，在家門前的街角堆砌出一個「螺旋花園」。他說，花台雖小，但是多一棵植物就多一份都市保水功能，也多一些水氣回到天空，加入水循環的行列。
如果有更多住在都會叢林的人願意加入「城市農夫」行列，家家戶戶打開窗、或是走在巷弄間，就能採集到當季的青蔥、九層塔、絲瓜、地瓜葉等，這樣的城市風貌會是多麼的健康多元！

With lots of recent teen suicides1 in the US, it is hard not to wonder if something could have been done to prevent them. Where can a person turn for help if they have an emotional crisis or have reached the breaking point2? The answer lies in hotlines3. These are special phone numbers that people can call if they need emergency counseling4 immediately. Most are available 24 hours a day and have trained volunteers and professional counselors.

玩具醫師妙手回春

玩具壞了該怎麼辦？這是許多家長和小朋友都曾面臨的問題，通常多因無計可施，索性只能順勢汰舊換新， 既不環保也傷荷包。近年來，在教育部計畫推動下，於全台小學裡紛紛開設「玩具工坊」，只要帶著「掛病號」的玩具上門求診，透過「玩具醫師」的精湛醫術，故 障玩具也能起死回生！
「玩具工坊」研究計畫主持人、師大工業教育系教授洪榮昭表示，計畫發想來自於有一次研究創造力發展的日本教授友人來訪，提及正與當地玩具公司合作，讓兒童帶著玩具至養老院探訪，以玩具為最佳橋樑，讓老幼同樂互動。
洪榮昭聽了以後，認為概念甚佳，應在同樣邁入「高齡化」社會的台灣推廣，但是想到國內養老院風氣不盛，且面臨「少子化」衝擊，各小學閒置空間增加， 不如善加運用，主動進駐校園，於是向教育部社教司提出「玩具工坊」計畫，2006年正式上路，至今已陸續接受全台6所小學（台北市武功國小、新北市新泰國 小、桃園縣中壢國小、宜蘭縣岳明國小、嘉義縣梅圳國小、台南市進學國小）主動申請，試辦「社區玩具工坊」。
而看診的玩具醫師，多來自社區愛心志工、退休銀髮族，通過專業講師教授木工、針線、創意思考玩具和鄉土童玩等培訓課程後，即可領取聘書，正式成為「玩具醫師」，不僅能讓社區長者發揮原本專長，同時學習新技能。

因工作而生，為工作而死？
──過勞認定放寬

近年白領與藍領工作者「過勞死」的新聞時有所聞，在勞工團體的不斷陳情下，勞委會終於在去（2010）年12月宣布放寬對「過勞」的認定標準。
「過勞」是現代職場高度競爭、工作環境持續緊張，以及勞資關係不對等的結構性產物；「過勞死」更是新經濟時代的工作夢魘。以往勞工疑因工作負擔過重 而爆發心肌梗塞等急性循環系統疾病的案例，多集中於40歲以上的中壯年男性，但2010年卻有一位29歲年輕工程師猝死，引起社會譁然，過勞認定過嚴的爭 議重新浮上台面。
悲劇促成改革

The Island of the Dolls is a strange place started by Don Julián Santana. This man lived all by himself without electricity and many of the conveniences of modern life. Even though Santana passed away in 2001, his family maintains the island with donations from curious people wanting to take pictures of the dolls.

台灣縮影在「未來」

如果說，爭豔館裡的花藝創作是「人工美」；那麼，完全模擬植物生態棲地的未來館，展現的就是「自然美」。
館中1,700多種、3萬株花草植栽，9成以上都是在台灣這塊土地上土生土長、看得到的植物。「未來館是台灣地貌的縮影，」未來館計畫主持人涂智益說。
未來館的故事，從一棵「生命樹」開始，這棵來自彰化的百年老榕樹，起源是一棵菩提樹，被正榕寄生、變身為榕樹後，又再度被另一棵榕樹寄生，形成有趣的3代傳承現象，象徵台灣代代相傳、堅韌的生命力。
在老幹抽嫩芽的「生命樹」帶領下，整個未來館亦隨緯度與海拔高度來呈現不同環境條件下，台灣生態的多樣性。
